Welcome back to Solinfo Lighting & Home’s Back to School selection. After showing you the perfect desk and the best possible swivel chairs, let’s continue with desk lamps.
A good desk lamp is as important an accessory for your desk as any other accessory. Even more crucial perhaps. The light conditions you work in or your children study in have considerable impact. Natural light is a blessing, but a source of light must also be ensured for the night-time. We have selected a few of our current favourite desk lamps.
“Buddy” by Northern
Designer Mads Sætter-Lassen created the Buddy lamp family for Northern in 2016. This table lamp is “the little helper everyone needs”. Buddy is more than a simple lamp. It’s an essential desk accessory with a holder to contain pens, pencils, keys or basically anything you might need when sitting down to work. Buddy helps your desk remain uncluttered. The multi-directional shade enables the beam to be directed towards the area where light is needed. Available in dark green, warm beige, dark grey and white. Wherever you place it, the Buddy table lamp promises to be a fun and quirky companion for your children.
The “w182 pastille” – a very special creation by the Wästberg designers
The w182 pastille can be described as a pure disc of light, attached to a thin line. A construction that allows a variety of surfaces to be illuminated. It is different to desk lamps that illuminate in a focused way. The w182 pastille sees environments as surfaces to illuminate softly. It is a gentle light that lights up an entire wall, a floor or a table. The disc can be freely rotated up, down and around.
The w182 pastille is made of a bio-polyamide that is based on over 60% biologically-sourced and recyclable material from the castor plant. The w182 pastille creates a remarkable spread of light that is warm and dimmable all from a single LED. The use for the lamp – created by designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin – is extremely diverse, available as several variations, as well as a wall-mounted and standalone version.
Louis Poulsen’s VL38 desk lamp in the spirit of both the modern and the classical
The fixture of the lamp designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen emits downward directed light. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimise light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft comfortable light. The lamp has an energy-efficient LED light source, equipped with a special timer function for automatic switch-off that can be set to 4 or 8 hours. It’s possible to set the lamp to turn on with a specific light level at a given time. The brass surface is left untreated, meaning that the surface will change over time and develop a patina.
The Serge Mouille Cocotte Desk Lamp, based on the emblematic design from 1957, is available once again
The lamp features a black body, two black steel feet and an aluminium reflector with a shiny white interior which can be swivelled into position thanks to a brass ball joint. Thanks to its avant-garde design and top-of-the-range materials, the lamp rapidly became an icon of worldwide design. The creation by Serge Mouille (1922-1988) is today manufactured by Uber-Modern, at the initiative of his widow Gin Mouille.
Manufactured in France, the lamps are fabricated following procedures of craftsmanship that are identical to the artist’s own working techniques. Fortunately, several moulds and other sources remain available from that era, allowing the new pieces to represent the same high quality as the original pieces. The lamps are assigned a serial number s well as a certificate of authenticity.
