Form follows function

The history and design philosophy of Vipp kitchens goes back to the very beginning of the Danish brand. The Vipp story begins in 1939, when a young metalworker, Holger Nielsen, builds a sturdy, pedal-operated trash can for his wife Marie’s salon. The choice of name is no coincidence either, as “vippe” is Danish for “to tilt”, describing the movement of a dustbin lid. Over the next 50 years, this ground-breaking product will become a permanent fixture in Danish sanitary facilities. Family-owned since the beginning, the brand now has a broad portfolio of industrial designs developed from the functional philosophy of the pedal bin.

In this light, every Vipp product since 1939 has been born from the same idea: to produce long-lasting tools for everyday life. After expanding the range, Vipp wanted to take on other, larger projects, and so the Vipp V1 and V2 kitchens were born – currently available in our Home of Solinfo shop.

A kitchen to match the Vipp bin: the V1 kitchen

The kitchen is characterised by a timeless design that doesn’t adapt to fast-changing trends, but is based on a carefully considered system. No compromises in the use of materials, no unnecessary extras. Only function.

A modular system for customisation

Vipp kitchens are a modular concept, where the units are seen as building blocks. There are four types of modules; island, island with seating, wall and high modules. The versatility and customisability of the kitchen is reflected in the fact that each module can be built up with pre-selected elements to suit different needs.

New material approach, familiar building block approach

The 2021 Vipp V2 is a new modular kitchen system where dark oak and Jura marble create a design language that takes us from our Danish roots all the way to Japan through a simple and sophisticated aesthetic idiom. We also see modularity again in the V2 kitchen, so we can just as easily assemble our own version from pre-selected elements.

Vipp’s favourite material: extruded aluminium

Rounded aluminium profiles with ribbed detailing serve as discreet and integrated drawer and cabinet handles, while there are also repeating internal fittings such as soft-moulded silicone cutlery dividers. Anodised aluminium cabinet doors with their refined fronts give the V2 kitchen a playful and sophisticated look, while ribbed glass adds transparency to the concept of a functional kitchen system.

Innovations of timeless design

The iconic Italian brand’s kitchen range is where European design meets impeccable use of materials – from the very first pieces. The brand – part of the Molteni Group since 1987 – has been an inescapable force in European kitchen design for over 80 years. Their kitchen furniture and solutions not only exude elegance, but are made to the highest standards of quality and technical excellence.

Dada joined the Molteni Group, under Luigi Molteni, in 1979 and already in 1987 received one of the world’s most prestigious design awards, the Compasso d’Oro, for the Futura kitchen designed by the Kairos studio. Futura’s main feature is its wall units, which are still among Dada’s most innovative products. In the nineties, Luca Meda designed a truly innovative kitchen called Banco, the first suspended kitchen. In 2008, Dada and Armani Casa partnered to create another milestone, and the Armani/Dada brand quickly became the leading manufacturer of high-end kitchens.

Dada is the embodiment of quality Italian design at the heart of the home, in the kitchen, dreamed up by renowned experts such as Vincent Van Duysen, Dante Bonuccelli and Nicola Gallizia – which is why two of their kitchens were included in the selection: the VVD and the Prime.

Italian sophistication, breathtaking use of materials

Vincent Van Duysen reinterprets the recessed handle set and the contrast of the slender side and end units in a modern and sophisticated style. He breaks the linearity of the worktops with stone sinks.

Alternating textures and the interplay of solids and voids create a dynamic yet sophisticated kitchen scheme. The beautifully designed pull-out trays and open shelving systems complete the project – plus the aluminium load-bearing structure allows the compositions to be suspended completely from the floor.

Pioneering technological solutions

Innovation is attributed to technological details such as the integrated LED strip lighting, the aluminium profile that discreetly shapes the door handle – improving the handle’s grip – and the innovative pivot hinge that allows the door to open 180°, giving more space to the interior. The kitchen has also been given a new architectural look thanks to Bright wall elements, with transparent glass doors and soft-closing micro hinges.

A wide range of compositions to meet the most sophisticated aesthetic needs

Prime is designed to express the potential of a kitchen with recessed openings. The recesses run softly along the width and/or length of the worktops and end in the side panels – offering an alternative solution and ample scope for customisation.

The project also introduces a new glass cabinet paired with the wall units and Flair columns: both illuminate the sides of the units with concealed LED profiles, as well as the new Wing system with tapered aluminium shelves. The Prime snack bar completes the composition, with titanium and pewter aluminium frames and a dark walnut top table, complemented by Woody chairs by Francesco Meda, who designed the entire Woody seating range for Molteni&C.
