AJ Black Floor Lamp
Arne Jacobsen designed this fixture, among many other furniture and lamps, for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. The inner half of the floor lamp is painted white, giving a pleasant downward glow. In addition, the shade can be tilted to adjust the light distribution. the AJ lamp family is considered to be the most famous design by Jacobsen worldwide.
In addition to the AJ floor lamp, the lamp family also includes a table lamp in two sizes and a wall lamp, all of which were also found in the SAS Royal Hotel after the hotel was opened in 1960. With its clean, distinctive shape and immaculate light, the AJ lamp was visible throughout the hotel because it was made of copper and stainless steel.
The AJ Royal range of lamps, together with the AJ lamp, were part of the overall design concept Jacobsen created for the hotel. He designed practically everything here himself. The parallels between the straight lines and the combination of straight and curved angles in the design of the AJ lamps can also be seen in the geometric contours of his buildings.
